Natural vent

Natural Vent Gas Water Heaters are your standard water heaters that have been around for a long time. They have a constant pilot that will ignite the burner to reach the desired water temperature.

Natural vent water heaters vent in metal fume pipe through a chimney and are now required by most municipalities to vent in a chimney liner inside the chimney.

Power Vent

Power Vent Water Heaters store your water and keep it at a desired temperature just like traditional tanks. The difference is there is an igniter to light the burner that does not require a constant pilot.

Power Vent Water Heaters vent though a 2" or 3" PVC pipe out the side of the building. These units have a powered draft inducer to move the exhaust air through the pipe, requiring an outlet near the tanks location.

tankless

Tankless Water Heaters are the most efficient units used today. This is because they use a flow meter, inside the unit, that ignites the heat exchanger, heating only the water we call for.

Tankless water heaters vent similar to the power vent water heaters, but require and intake vent as well. Most units will achieve this with two pipes leading outside the house or one large manufacture supplied combination exhaust/intake pipe.
